Nahid Clinic

Clinic Design is a challenge to merge function and beauty.

Project Description

Jordan district is one of the densely populated areas of Tehran. Also, The district sufferers from the lack of sufficient space for new Buildings. Within the exiting range of licensing processes and the cost of construction have led to the renovation of existing buildings. As a consequent, Client wanted to Change  a residential project c to the clinic.

Rules and Limitations

However, this changing has many limitations. To meet the standards of the ministry of health, some modifications and limitations should be considered in existing building. Minimum number of the rooms was the most important matter in clinic design. Also, sterilizations spaces, evacuate trashes and the facility considerations of smoke suction and fresh air distention were important. The cleaning of the spaces was the other criteria in clinic design. besides, the municipality rules restricted the major changes in the building. Also, The situation of vertical circulations, bathrooms, ducts, structure, lightning were these restrictions.

First Challenge: increasing the multiplicity of users

Creating an operational space based on a complex physical schedule of clinic in the current residential building was the first design challenge. Also, A residential building should have a high reception capacity for patients, doctors and staff total of 110 people in a rush hour (6 times more than of residential standard). the maximum use of all spaces, was the major solution to solve this problem.

Second challenge: integrated design of various spaces

Second challenge in clinic design was the difference in the use of each floor in a fixed plan. The plans should have been designed in a flexible way with a variety of usages. The new function assigned to each spaces. Spectrum of various therapeutic units created a basic modulus for placement in spaces. As a consequence, a number of internal walls were displaced to create the proper working space. In the operation rooms, designing lockers in combination with tables, working area, Furniture, air condition and exhaust lead to such an integrated design. The client’s request was to create a simple, minimal and functional one.

Third challenge: inaccurate construction of current building

Inaccurate construction of current building and decline of spaces to one another, causes the bad sight. Step case twist to the entrance. Also, bathrooms and rooms twist to salon. These issues could not modify fundamentally. Architect focused in rehabilitation with light materials. Also, the space needs an unique interior design strategy. Due to building age, decreasing the thickness of finishing materials reduce the dead load. As a consequent, some tests accomplished in the building. Destruction of Structure and wall were not effective. Also,As the client’s request in designing a simple space, unnecessary formal movements with the purpose to hide inaccuracy were not desirable. Also, Architect determined the Changing of material in different surfaces to minimize inaccurate.

Maximum use of a limited space in clinic design:

At the entrance of each floor, residential kitchen changes to secretary’s area. Also, this space uses for Waiting room, pantry and archive. Besides, Each floor identifies with a specific color that can be addressed for patients. using white color, using reflective and simple monolithic surfaces and eliminating any additional elements provide the maximum space from limited area. The entrance car Ramp turns in to the patient’s entrance ramp by the increasing slope. Finally, selected materials provides sense the connection of the inside and outside.
